Information for Minor and Major Softball

UPDATED JUNE 6:
Please see the announcement in this site's general news (on the home page) and look for an email from Tunkhannock Little League or your program commissioner for information about our direction to resume Minor-Major programs in a limited manner within Little League coronavirus safety guidelines.  We hope to resume some limited play in those levels this summer if we have enough interested players and volunteers.

UPDATED THURSDAY MARCH 12 !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Out of caution due to the Covid-19 virus threat, Tunkhannock Little League is cancelling this week's activities - the March 14 Baseball and Softball Tryouts and the parents meetings on March 17, 18 and 23.  Information on updated meeting schedules will be published at a later date.  We recognize many of our players live with grandparents or others who may be a higher health risk with respect to the virus.  At this point in time, we don't want to create a situation which will increase the risk of spread to these individuals. Again, the March 14 tryouts and the March 17, 18, and 23 program parents meetings are cancelled.

Tryouts for Player Placement:  Saturday March 14th - details below
Parents Meeting:  Wednesday March 18th - details below

Major Softball:  12:00noon – 1:00pm – Saturday March 14th
New players and those league age 10-11-12 who played minors last year must report.
Returning Major level players do NOT need to report.
(For softball, Little League "league age" is player age as of December 31 of last year.)

Minor Softball:  1pm - 2pm – Saturday March 14th
League-age 8-9 coming up from Coach-Pitch must report and any new players ages 8-9.
League-age 8 year olds who have played at least 1 year of Coach-Pitch should try out.

Softball Parents Meeting is Wednesday March 18th, 6pm, in the Middle School Cafeteria
Team placements and other information will be shared at that meeting.  Players will get to meet as a team with their coach.

Notes on Placement between Levels:
Decisions on whether a player will be placed on a Minor or Major roster will be made by the full group of coaches and commissioner for that program based upon:
     - Performance at try-outs including all aspects of batting, fielding and throwing.
     - Exposure of the player in the previous season.
     - The number of total roster slots available in each program.
     - The overall number and age distribution of the group of players trying out.
While a parent may request a program level, it will NOT be the primary determination for placement. The decision on the program level assignment will be made by the group of coaches and commissioner based upon the criteria outlined above.  The intent is to place players at the best fit for their skills based on the exposure and evaluation by the coaches and commissioners.  The evaluation and roster assignment procedures used by our leagues are supported by Little League regulations and guidelines.   It is important to note that players are "placed" and not "cut" - as long as the player is registered in time during our regular registration period, they will be assigned a place in one of our programs.  (For late registrations however, assignments can be made only as long as roster spots are available and we offer NO GUARANTEE for late registrants.)
